Sunset at Flagstaff Train Station
Last September I had noticed, earlier in the day, that there was potential for a great sky at sunset so I grabbed my gear and went downtown to the Train Station. I had been looking for a good opportunity to shoot this great Arts and Crafts building with a beautiful sky for a while. I set my new Nikon D600 onto my tripod and watched the sky change as I clicked away. Shortly after the sun set I captured this image as the sky turned from yellow to a brilliant orange. I took a few more as the sky turned to night, but this image stood out among all of the others. I really love the way this full frame camera picks up the texture and warmth of the red bricks on the station walls and pavement, along with the shingles.
I often go back to locations to shoot and have been back a few more times since this one but none of the more recent images compare to it.
1/20 second, f11, -2EV, ISO220 (Auto), 18 - 35mm @ 18mm. Processed in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom to bring up the shadows on the architectural features and bring down the brightness of the sky on the RAW image.
