Marshmallow Peaks

Marshmallow Peaks

The San Francisco Peaks dominate my part of the Colorado Plateau, north of Flagstaff, AZ. They are the point of reference for all of us who live here. The mountains change constantly, with the hour of the day or night and with the seasons and is how we define our day. "Did you see the peaks this morning?" is a common exclamation folks make to each other when they arrive at their destinations. They put on a continuous show, so substantial, always beautiful, constantly evolving.

This photo was taken the morning after a light snow. We always comment on the marshmallow look of fresh powder on the promontory and the town bustles with snow sports activity as boarders, downhillers, tele markers, and snow shoers throw their dogs in the car and head out into the pristine blanket of icy wonderfulness.

My work is to communicate the value of the landscape of this mountain, this town, this region, or any of the other incredible places I have traveled to. Everywhere I look, I see the light illuminating the natural and built world. Line, shape, form, all of the elements come together to form relationships in a fine art image and I strive to bring it all together to be meaningful. Photography is the medium I have found that works for me to inform you of this idea of beauty of nature, the city and its people. I will continue to learn to find ways to create an image to show the soul of a place.

Enjoy.
